FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Some of the answers to the most commonly asked questions.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FROM START TO FINISH?

Each project we take on is unique and is generally dictated by the client. We can however, work to deadlines and specify a timescale to go live. One of the most common delays in getting a website live is populating your website with content. If we have a clear design brief and content ready from the start, we can give an accurate timescale as to when your site can go live. There are also other factors to take in to account, such as, testing the site, final payments or waiting for domain names to transfer from an old registrar.

DO WE NEED TO MEET UP?

One of the ways we keep costs down is by doing business via telephone, skype & email. It's a very efficient way of doing business and helps free our time up, as well as yours. We upload or email design concepts to you for approval and amendments. Concept designs are only viewable by our client (you) and us. If you are local to us and really want to have a face to face meeting, we can do so if needed. Did you know that we haven't met 90% of our clients in person? This isn't uncommon at all in the web design industry and it's actually how most web design companies operate as we have a client base that spans the globe.

WHAT COSTS ARE INVOLVED?

We don't believe in set prices for websites because each project will have different requirments from the next. Once we have a design brief back from you, we will supply a quote, broken down by elements and price. The total cost we quote to you is the final cost and there are NEVER any hidden fees we didn't mention. Generally, there are 3 main costs involved in getting a website online. Designing and building the site, web hosting & domain names.

WHO OWNS THE WEBSITE ONCE COMPLETE?

Our sites are built with open source content management software released under the ,GNU/GPL License. This means it's free to study, change, improve and at times also to distribute the software. As we design each website bespoke to our client, it wouldn't be in our interest to retain the design for any reason, therefore, you own the design once you have paid for it.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO UPDATE?

We build all of our sites with content management at the core. You will be able to update content yourself. This includes things like text, pictures and forms. However, sometimes you may require some custom updates doing which are charged at £30 per hour.

We also realise that most of our clients are very busy and may not have the time to continually update content, so we offer website maintenance and take away the stress of the process.

One thing you will not be able to update yourself is the physical design and layout of your website, unless you have an understanding of the process, we would advise you contact us and discuss your requirements.

WHAT IS WEB HOSTING?

Web hosting is providing somewhere to place your website files and content to make it accessible to everyone on the internet. Depending on the nature of your website will dictate the hosting requirments needed. There are many different types of web hosting, such as, shared hosting, vps hosting, cloud hosting and dedicated server hosting. The most common type is shared hosting and your website will sit on a server with many other websites but in a secure area designated to your account. Web hosting is required for every website in the world or nobody would be able to find your website. We offer web hosting to our clients only to help keep costs down and manage accounts more effeciently.

HOW MUCH DOES WEB HOSTING COST?

We provide web hosting with each site we design and build. We will advise you on the best package to use depending on your requirements. Web hosting is valid for 12 months and billed at a set price on your renewal date.

CAN I USE MY OWN WEB HOSTING?

Yes! You don't have to use our web hosting packages, you can use web hosting provided by any company in the world. Sometimes it's easier to keep your existing hosting and we upload the finished website to your server.
